Mac and Windows Migration Checklist
MacWindows covered cross-platform migration tools, sync tools, and practical file-transfer issues because users often arrived with a mixture of Mac disks, Windows shares, Outlook data, Office documents, browser bookmarks, and application-specific formats.
Before moving data
- Inventory documents, mail, calendars, contacts, browser data, fonts, templates, and application settings.
- Check filenames for Windows-prohibited characters and path-length problems.
- Confirm whether removable storage should use exFAT, NTFS, APFS, HFS+, or network transfer instead.
- Separate user documents from virtual machine images so backups and transfers stay manageable.
After moving data
Open the migrated files from the target application, not only from the file browser. Office documents, design files, mail archives, fonts, and databases can appear present but still fail because of permissions, missing dependencies, or incompatible application versions.
