Update to Parallels 9 improves Windows 8.1 support, fixes bugs

Parallels has released Parallels Desktop 9 for Mac (build 9.0.24172), a free maintenance update to the virtualization software for OS X. The update fixes a number of bugs and adds support for creating virtual machines booting from a Windows 8.1 Boot Camp partition, as well as resolving other Windows 8.1 issues. The update also fixes a problem with system shortcuts not working after upgrading to OS X 10.9 Mavericks.

Other Windows 8.1 improvements include fixing a problem with Windows virtual machines not switching to Coherence after upgrading to Windows 8.1. The update resolves an issue with Windows 8.1 not occupying full screens on multiple displays when running in the non-native Full Screen mode. And it fixes a problem where Parallels Tools would install twice a row in Windows 8.1

The update fixes a several problems with Coherence, one that caused virtual machines to crash when switching to Coherence, and another where the Windows taskbar was displayed while Windows is running in Coherence. The update also fixes a problem that caused the OS X login screen to appear if the mouse pointer was moved to the left bottom corner of the screen while Windows was in Coherence.

Other fixes include an issue with virtual machines crashing on startup, and problems with Google Chrome and some other OpenGL apps crashing. It also fixes a bug that sometimes caused the whole Parallels Desktop to crash when creating a Parallels account or new virtual machine.

Other bug fixes include:

  • Resolves an issue with Parallels Desktop not starting after upgrading to a newer version
  • Resolves an issue with a guest version of OS X 10.8 not booting correctly after reclaiming disk space.
  • Resolves an issue with some notifications and dialogs marked ""Don't show again"" still showing each time Parallels Desktop opens.
  • Resolves an issue with the prl-cc.exe process blocking Windows shutdown.
If you've tried this update if it fixes any problems for you.
