File copy error -36 reported with 10.9.2 and OS X Server

Mac uses are reporting that updating Mavericks to OS X 10.9.2 results in a new file sharing problem connecting to Mavericks Server. Posts at the Apple discussion forums are reporting a -36 error when trying to copy a file to the server after updating the client to Mavericks OS X 10.9.2.

A workaround is to turn off SMB on the server, thereby forcing the Mac clients to connect to the using AFP (Apple File Protocol), which was for over decade was the default file sharing protocol for Macs.

Error -36 is a standard OS X error code that signifies only that there is a problem reading or writing a file.

The OS X 10.9.2 update, released earlier this week, is supposed to improve reliability with SMB file sharing, according to Apple documentation. MacWindows readers have reported Mavericks problems with file sharing, with introduced SMB2.
