Apple releases iOS update for Exchange bug

Apple has released iOS 6.1.2, an update to fix a bug that causes iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch to have "excessive communication" with Exchange Server.

The Apple tech article about the update down played the nature of the bug, stating only that the problem "could result in increased network activity and reduced battery life." Microsoft indicated more serious ramifications, stating that the bug could degrade the performance of Exchange Server. Microsoft recommended that Exchange administrators throttle or block iPhone access to Exchange. Apple and Microsoft also both recently offered workarounds.

The Exchange bug is the only fix that Apple lists with the iOS 6.1.2. Other known iOS 6.1 bugs, including the ability to get past the lock screen without a password, are not mentioned.
